Babatunde, Abubakar win NUJ/Henry George table tennis tourney

Aminat Babatunde of National Pilot Newspapers and Bayo Abubakar of Sobi FM have emerged winners of
this year’s edition of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)/Henry George Inter-Chapel table Tennis championship concluded at the NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin, on Tuesday.

Babatunde won the female competition after beating Nusirat Popoola of Kwara TV 2-1, while Bayo Abubakar defeated Yinka Ajia of State Information Chapel 3-0 to win the male event.

Mosunmola Ayobami of the Correspondents Chapel won the third-place prize in the female event, while the duo of Biodun Sinmire of the Federal Information Chapel and Biola Azeez of the Correspondents Chapel won the third place prizes in the male category.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 12 chapels participated in the Singles events for male and female categories.

The Chairman of the Kwara NUJ, Malam Umar Abdulwahab, said that the competition was organised as
part of the on-going Press Week for journalists in the state.

He said that the competition, which started in 2014, had been sustained to enable journalists to interact
inspite of their busy schedules.

The sponsor of the tourney, Oladimeji Thompson, commended NUJ for introducing the competition and SWAN for allowing him to be part of the competition as sponsor.

Oladimeji, who said that he was happy to be the sponsor, gave an assurance that he would always support NUJ and SWAN in their activities in the state.

Alloy Chukwuemeka, a former National Officer of SWAN, also commended the NUJ and SWAN for their efforts.(NAN)
