Barcelona set to decide Ronald Koeman future

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is reportedly set to learn his fate at the club later on Thursday.

The former Netherlands manager delivered a Copa del Rey crown to Camp Nou during his first season in charge, but La Blaugrana’s attempts to secure Champions League and La Liga glory proved fruitless.

Koeman’s future in Catalonia has since been shrouded in uncertainty, although President Joan Laporta has announced that a decision will be made within the next 10 days following crunch talks.

However, Mundo Deportivo reports that Koeman will sit down with the Barca board on Thursday, and they have agreed to keep the Dutchman at the club for the 2021-22 season.

The report claims that Laporta reached the decision to keep Koeman due to the fact that a lack of ideal successors were available, and the 58-year-old could even stay beyond 2022 should he steer Barcelona to a major trophy next term.

Koeman has overseen 35 wins from his 54 games in charge of La Blaugrana so far, and his ranks have already been bolstered with the arrivals of Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia as free agents.

Laporta has also hinted that more signings could be announced next week, with the club still working on deals for Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay.
