Barcelona target Atalanta wing-back Gosens

Robin Gosens put on a masterclass for Germany against Portugal and it earned the Atalanta wing-back interest from Barcelona.

He scored a goal, provided two assists, helped create another goal and saw a spectacular volley disallowed during yesterday’s 4-2 win at Euro 2020.

Inevitably, it raised his profile and possibly also the €35-40m asking price set by Atalanta.

According to Sport1 in Germany, it helped convince Barcelona, who contacted his agent to ask about potential availability.

According to Sky Sport Deutschland,  Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund could be interested in a potential swoop.

Gosens turns 27 next month and helped Atalanta qualify for the Champions League for the second year running.

This season, he contributed 12 goals and eight assists in 44 competitive games at club level, prompting interest from Juventus and Inter.

He has dual citizenship with Germany and the Netherlands, but opted to play for the country of his birth.

Atalanta purchased Gosens from Heracles Almelo for just €1.2m in 2017.
