Basketball gurus meet to improve standard of the game

The World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) Executive Committee met this week at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball for their first meeting of the new working cycle, 2019 – 2023. The meeting was chaired by the WABC President, Mr Patrick Hunt.

The WABC role is to improve the standard of the game of basketball by improving the level of those teaching the game. Their main focus is dedicated to the basketball coaches’ development throughout the world which includes, among other activities, the organization of multiple coaching clinics worldwide as well as the production of coaching resources in several languages.

The WABC is engaged in creating and developing a worldwide basketball coaches’ community, which is already composed of thousands of high-level coaches from all countries around the world. All activities of the WABC are endorsed by and organized through FIBA.

The two-day executive committee meeting covered an extensive list of topics with the main points for consideration being the overview of existing WABC resources and activities, the WABC Level 1 and Level 2 course’s delivery strategy, further developing Coach Instructors and the collaboration with the WABC Advisory Committee for 2019-2023.

The meeting was attended by all members of the WABC Executive Committee and President Patrick Hunt said: “Our top priority is to raise the level of play in the basketball world. The main objectives of the WABC for this next term are the effective delivery of the various resources that we have developed to the rest of the world, particularly the Level 1 and 2 coaching courses, involve more female coaches and plan for the future. These past two days have been extremely positive and productive with much exciting work ahead”.
