Beach soccer Nations Cup: Sand Eagles lose first game to Senegal

Super Sand Eagles Saturday began their campaign at the ongoing Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Egypt on a losing note.

The Sand Eagles though put up a spirited effort holding Senegal to a 4-4 draw at full time and extra time.

The match then went into penalties which saw Senegal run away with a 4-2 victory.

Some say whatever result the Sand Eagles eventually get in Egypt will be good enough considering that the team did not train enough neither was there any form of preparation before departure for the championship.

The team reported camped in Badagry before departure but could not play effective friendly matches to shape up for the event.

In other matches billed for Saturday, Libya beat Tanzania 5-2 while   hosts Egypt will later take on Morocco.

Tomorrow Nigeria will take on Libya while Senegal will be hoping to consolidate when they take on Tanzania.  Only two teams will emerge from each group into the knock out stage.

Egypt, Morocco Ivory Coast and Madagascar are slugging it out in Group A while Nigeria, Libya Senegal and Tanzania are fighting for supremacy in Group B.

Despite poor preparation Coach of the side Audu Adamu remains optimistic that the team can pick a world cup ticket.  The top two teams at the end of the championship will qualify for the beach world cup to be held in Paraguay next year.
