Bendtner shuns looming 50-day prison term for holiday

Former Arsenal ace Nicklas Bendtner didn’t appear too concerned about his looming 50-day prison sentence as he enjoyed a holiday in Mexico with his model girlfriend Philine Roepstorff.

Bendtner last month dropped his appeal against the sentence for assaulting a taxi driver in the Danish capital Copenhagen back in September.

Denmark international Bendtner, 30, who is now with Norwegian club Rosenborg, will wear an electronic tag as punishment but it isn’t clear when his sentence will start.

In the meantime, he is enjoying holiday in the town of Tulum, a town on Mexico’s Caribbean coastline renowned for its beaches and Mayan ruins.

Bendtner and Roepstorff were pictured riding bikes in the town during a downpour as he enjoyed his freedom while it lasts.

Prolific Instagrammer Reopstorff hasn’t been shy in showing off their holiday fun, posing for snaps in a skimpy black bikini.

Bendtner was sentenced to 50 days behind bars in early November after being convicted of assaulting a taxi driver following a night out in the Danish capital in September.

Bendtner was charged with beating and kicking the cab driver in the 2.41am incident on September 9 after he and girlfriend Roepstorff had been at the exclusive nightclub Lusso.

Having quarrelled over the £4.80 fare, Bendtner punched the driver in the jaw before kicking him as he lay on the ground.

The argument started when Bendtner, who admitted he had been drinking, told the driver to ‘keep left’ only for him to turn left.

As tensions escalated, Bendtner claimed he felt threatened and left the taxi for his own safety.

The pair then squared up on the pavement, with Bendtner claiming he hit out in self-defence when the driver moved towards him.

Bendtner admitted hitting the driver but claimed it was in self-defence after the argument over the fare led to the driver throwing a can or bottle in his direction.

Bendtner was handed an unconditional sentence and told to pay the driver £1,330 in compensation.

The cab driver was acquitted of violence but fined £355 for using his telephone while driving and not wearing his seat belt.
