Enyimba left back, Benjamin Francis says he is thrilled to have finally secured his first Nigeria Professional Football League title with the People’s Elephant after going so close with Nasarawa United some seasons back.
first league title
Francis was a trojan in defence as Enyimba raced to their record eighth league crown last week after they emerged tops at the end of the NPFL Championship Playoffs held in Lagos with 12 points from five
games.
The out-of-favour Super Eagles defender disclosed that he was part of the Heartland squad that won the 2011 and 2012 Federation Cup competition back to back but that he felt a special urge winning his first league title with Enyimba.
“I have won the FA Cup back to back when I was with Heartland,” Francis told the club’s official media office.
“Concerning the league, I’ve come second when I was with Nasarawa United but I’ve been praying and wishing that one day I will win the league and thank God I’ve won it now with Enyimba so I’m very grateful
and excited about it.
“It’s a thing of joy because this is what I’ve been praying for. Winning the league is higher than the FA Cup.”
Francis thumbed up the contributions of their fans in the league title whom he stated were always available at all match venues to support and cheer them to victory.
“The fans are very wonderful people because they risk their lives,” he continued.

“Anywhere we are going they always come there with their support and when they start to support you, you’ll just feel at home. You’ll not even feel that you’re playing away. So it motivates us to do more in the pitch of play.”
