Black Queens suffer Falcons fate miss Tokyo 2020 Olympics

 

Black Queens of Ghana have been shown the exit doors in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers.  The Queens were beaten by a lone goal in Nairobi by Harambee Starlets  who reportedly showed more hunger to progress

The Kenya girls now progress to the fourth round of the qualifiers where they will meet the winner between Zambia and Botswana.

On Monday 11 times Africa Women Championship winner Super Falcons were pushed out of the competition after playing out a 1-1 draw against Cote d Ivoire at the Agege Stadium in Lagos, handing the Ivoirianspassage to the next round thanks to the away goal rule. The first leg had ended 0-0 in Abidjan.

The Harambee versus Black Queens encounter had ended 0-0 at regulation time but it was the homers who eventually carried the day after teenager Jentrix Shikangwa’s converted extra-time penalty.

Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon also booked a place in the fourth round after edging out DR Congo on 3-2 aggregate. The ladies from Yaoundé will face Ivory Coast who sacked the Falcons in another two-legged affair while Kenya will tackle either Botswana or Zambia.

After the fourth round, the two finalists will lock horns with the winner bagging automatic ticket to Tokyo while the runners up will settle for a play-off against Chile.
