Black Stallions ready for bigger stage-Williams

The Technical Director of the Rugby Federation, Ntiense Williams has predicted that the Black Stallions will emerge the team to beat in the game in the near future not only in the continent but beyond.

He made the submission just as the team posted an impressive outing in Niamey defeating their Nigerien counterparts 59 points to 13 in an international friendly at the weekend at the Stade General Seyni Kountchede, Niamey.

“The victory in Niamey is definitely going to serve as ginger for the Stallions ahead of future outings.  We may have had a humble beginning in the development of the game but there is no doubt that the team will gradually rise to the occasion and ultimately emerge the team to beat on the continent,” he enthused Tuesday.

Stallions next outing will be in September in Cote d Ivoire where they will be competing in the Africa Rugby Regional Sevens Championship.

The championship will be serving dual purpose as pre-Olympics qualifier as well as All Africa Games/Africa Rugby Bonze Cup qualifiers for 2019.

An elated President of NRF Kelechukwu Mbagwu, had earlier while reacting to the team’s performance in Niamey expressed optimism that that Stallions will consolidate on the gains of the victory.

Although coach of the side Bronson Weir was full of praise for his side for rising to the occasion, there is however room for improvement describing the team as work in progress.

Some Rugby fans in the country that reacted to the Stallions latest outing said it is heartwarming to note that the sports which started like mere recreation among enthusiasts in the country is now on the verge of joining laurel winning sports.
