Blackburn boss Mowbray confirms talks for Leeds defender Douglas

Blackburn Rovers manager, Tony Mowbray, has confirmed that talks are ongoing with Leeds United about their defender Barry Douglas.

Blackburn, who currently sit sixth in the Championship table, have until the EFL transfer window shuts on Friday to try bring any new faces in at Ewood Park.

Mowbray has claimed on Thursday that discussions have been held with Premier League side Leeds for Douglas.

The 31-year-old is an experienced left-back that was part of the Whites squad that earned promotion last season, but he’s fallen down the pecking order at Elland Road and minutes are at a premium.

“Barry Douglas you mention is one name amongst a few we’ve been talking to and looking at and we will see which one falls into place for us,” Mowbray told BBC Lancashire Sport.

Douglas, 31, has previously been promoted with both Leeds and Wolverhampton Wanderers, which is why he looks an attractive option for any Championship club.

Mowbray has confirmed that speculation linking Blackburn to the Leeds full-back is correct.

Lancashire Live has reported that talks have taken place for the Scottish defender and that Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa is prepared to grant his exit in the window, as he’s entered the final year of his contract with the club.

With injuries currently an issue in the Leeds squad, there is an argument to be made that they should keep Douglas as cover in their group and he’s someone that could slot into the system comfortably if needed.

But the left-back has only featured in one Carabao Cup match so far and it looks unlikely he’s going to earn any many Premier League minutes throughout the course of the season, which is why for the individual a move makes sense.
