Blatter reveals why FIFA must not allow Qatar host 2022 World Cup

In what can only be described as one of the 21st century’s greatest pieces of irony, Sepp Blatter has called for the 2022 World Cup to be moved away from Qatar, citing concerns over corruption.

Blatter suggests moving the 2022 World Cup away from Qatar

Blatter, currently serving a six-year ban from all football-related activity as a result of ethics violations and corruption, was influential in the initial process which took the 2022 tournament to Qatar.

“Germany could do it, but this would mean the World Cup is staged in Europe again after 2018,” Blatter explained in an interview with Bild.

“The United States could do it instead of 2026; they are capable, it’s not rocket science. They also have the 1994 experience.

“Fortunately, the 2022 World Cup will only have 32 teams and not 48, the organisational effort wouldn’t be greater than 2018, Japan could also do it.”

When pressed on his own status with FIFA, the former president made clear that the suspension handed to him was nothing more than a plot to bring him down.

“The investigations are part of a major plot against me,” he confirmed.

“It’s incredible that investigators looked at the normal contract I signed with the CFU [Caribbean Football Union].

“This will all be solved, the best reaction from FIFA should be to name me honorary life president.”
