Blow for Man City as Torres is ruled out for a month

Manchester City will be without Ferran Torres for at least the next four weeks due to a foot injury sustained during the recent international break.

Torres suffered the foot problem while on duty for Spain this month in their Nations League finals campaign.

The 21-year-old scored twice in their 2-1 win over Italy in the semi-finals but was unable to breach France’s defence during Sunday’s 2-1 final defeat.

News about the forward’s setback will provide a big blow to City boss Pep Guardiola and his tactics over the ensuing timeframe.

The Premier League champions continue their defence of the title at home to Burnley on Saturday but over the course of the next four weeks face a further six games – including the ‘small’ matter of a Manchester derby at bitter rivals United on November 6.

After that encounter at Old Trafford comes the international break and Guardiola will hope Torres is fully-fit during that two-week period.

City then return to action at home to Everton on November 21, which would be six weeks since Torres played in Spain’s Nations League final defeat, before entertaining PSG in the Champions League three days later.

Torres, who has been deployed as a centre-forward so far this season, has scored three goals in seven matches for City in all competitions during 2021-22.
