Bologna coach Mihajlovic has COVID-19

Bologna have confirmed that coach, Sinisa Mihajlovic, has tested positive for COVID-19, potentially a very serious situation, as he is in a high-risk group.

The Serbian tactician was diagnosed with leukaemia in July 2019, undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

He has made a full recovery but is still in a high-risk group due to his recent history of serious illness.

A statement confirms Mihajlovic is asymptomatic and has been placed in quarantine for two weeks.

As per protocol, blanket tests will be performed on all players and members of staff on Monday ahead of pre-season training.

Mihajlovic already missed all of the pre-season training last summer because of his leukaemia treatment, spending three months in a specialist clinic.

He kept in touch with his staff and players via video link, watching training sessions from his hospital room and giving team talks.

Nobody knows more than Mihajlovic the importance of safety, hand-washing and wearing a mask during the COVID crisis, so it’s somewhat surprising and alarming that he was able to contract the virus.
