Boxing: Joshua vs Fury Big Fight Possible Next Year

Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes Tyson Fury, believes a massive UK showdown with Anthony Joshua is possible for 2020.

Making that contest is easier said than done, because both boxers have contractual ties to rival networks in the UK and the United States.

Fury is tied to BT Sport in the UK and ESPN in the US. And Joshua is tied to Sky Sports in the UK and aligned himself with DAZN in the US.

Based on their network affiliations, the fight seems nearly impossible to make.

But Arum will call on the boxing public to make the fight a reality, hoping the fans will boycott any event where Joshua will face someone other than Fury.

“We will force it,” Arum said to BT Sport.

“With the help of the public who want these huge fights. The people have the power. If the fans refuse to pay to go to lesser fights then Joshua will have to come to the table, even though his promoter (Eddie Hearn) is stuck with responsibilities to the DAZN streaming network in America and Sky over here (in the UK).”

Arum believes Fury is going to become so big in the United States, that DAZN and Sky will be obligated to come to the table for a joint broadcasting venture.

“Tyson will become so huge in America with his personality that we should be able to do joint broadcasting ventures the way we did for Mayweather-Pacquiao. With so much mine in it for everyone, everything in this business is possible. Only Brexit is insurmountable,” Arum said.

Fury is back on June 15th, when he makes his Las Vegas debut against Tom Schwarz at the MGM Grand. And Joshua is back in the ring on June 1, when he defends his WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO world titles against Andy Ruiz at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
