Braida recommends Chiesa for future Ballon d’or award

While Jorginho is put forward for the Ballon d’Or in 2021 due to his Italy and Chelsea exploits, Ariedo Braida believes Federico Chiesa ‘can have ambitions to win’ the trophy in the future.

The Ballon d’Or is often based on what players have won over the last year, and that might put Jorginho in pole position.

He lifted the Champions League with Chelsea, then the UEFA EURO 2020 trophy with Italy.

“Jorginho has won more than anyone else, thanks to that brace of the Champions League and Euros, so I’d give it to him or Gianluigi Donnarumma,” noted former Barcelona and Milan director Braida in Tuttosport.

“Having said that, Lionel Messi is always Messi and has to be taken into consideration.”

Although Barcelona flopped in La Liga and the Champions League, Messi did finally end his Argentina trophy drought with the Copa America this summer.

Braida sees another Italian talent making an impact on the Ballon d’Or debate going forward.

“He’s already won the Euros with Italy, so if he keeps improving like this, Chiesa can have ambitions to win the Ballon d’Or in future too.”

Chiesa scored two goals in the knockout rounds of EURO 2020, while at Juventus last season he contributed 14 goals and 10 assists in 40 competitive matches.
