Brazilian star Oscar may battle fifa over allegiance rule

Brazilian midfielder Oscar to wants world soccer ruling body to change the international allegiance rule to grant players wider freedom to choose.

Oscar, who has made 47 appearances for Brazil since making his debut in 2011 is currently having soft spot for China and would like the regulations changed to allow him switch allegiance to China.

The former Chelsea player left Stamford Bridge in January 2017 to join Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG for a reported £60 million and since that big-money move; he has enjoyed great success in the country.

The 28-year-old has scored 24 goals in 79 games for the club and now, after three years in the country, Oscar wants to switch international allegiance from Brazil to China.

Despite his lofty ambitions, the problem remains; FIFA laws do not allow players to switch allegiance if they have already represented their country in a competitive match.

“Of course I can think about it because it’s difficult to go to the Brazil national team now because I’m here, but in China everyone sees how good I play.” he told Sportscene.

“The China national team needs one good midfielder, so I think I can help with this.

“I like China, but the players now who go to China to change their nationality, they can do better also.”

So why did Oscar decide to move to the Chinese Super League in the first place?

According to teammate Hulk, the Brazilian midfielder left the Premier League for Shanghai because of him.

“I talked to Oscar about Shanghai SIPG before he made the move.” The former Porto player said to Chinese Media via Goal.
