BREAKING: Brentford promoted to EPL after Play-Off win vs Swansea

Brentford will be playing Premier League football next season after Ivan Toney and Emiliano Marcondes led the Bees to a 2-0 Championship Play-Off Final win over Swansea City at Wembley.

The west London club, who were beaten by Fulham in last year’s final, had previously reached the play-offs in the various divisions nine times, and lost each time.

But Brentford’s blistering start ensured they broke the curse: 10 minutes in, star striker Toney scored his 33rd goal of the season from the penalty spot – and Emiliano added a second 10 minutes later.

Toney also hit the bar with a sensational volley soon after, and while Swansea grew into the game after the break, the damage had already been done.

Toney, who set a new Championship scoring record this season, stepped up to slot home his 33rd of the 2020/21 campaign.

Ten minutes later Brentford were 2-0 up, with Emiliano slamming home first time from 15 yards after an electric breakway.

Swansea started the second half well, but Jordan Ayew spruned a glorious opportunity as he glanced a free header wide from six yards out – and the Swans’ hopes disappeared when Jay Fulton was sent off for a foul from behind on Mathias Jensen with 25 minutes remaining.

That dismissal gave Brentford breathing space, and Frank’s men tightened up to see out the win and make it 10th time lucky in the play-offs.
