Nigeria’s Super Eagles kick-started their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on a winning note by beating the Squirrels of Benin Republic 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Benin drew the first blood following a sloppy defending which Stephane Sessegnon took advantage of to slot the ball past a stranded Daniel Akpeyi in the box.

Victor Osimhen equalised for Nigeria later from the penalty spot after Ola Aina was upended in the box.

Samuel Kalu added the second in the second half to give Nigeria the three points.
