Brighton moving closer to signing Getafe’s Cucurella

Brighton are close to signing Spanish wide man Marc Cucurella from Getafe, according to latest report. The 23 year old midfielder is also able to operate as a wing-back.

He featured 37 times in La Liga last season, scoring three goals, as Getafe finished 15th in the table.

The Seagulls have already paid his release clause, which stands at €18million (£16m).

The one-time Spain international is now expected to travel to England to confirm the move.

Cucurella is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. However, he only made one appearance for the Spanish giants before being sold to Eibar.

A loan spell at Getafe followed in 2019/20, during which he impressed club officials and earned a £9m switch last summer.

Cucurella looks set to become Brighton’s third major summer signing. Zambian midfielder Enock Mwepu arrived from Red Bull Salzburg for an undisclosed fee, while Dutch shot-stopper Kjell Scherpen was brought in from Ajax.

Should the transfer be finalised before Tuesday’s deadline, then Cucurella would compete with Solly March for a starting spot on the left side.
