His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) took time to speak with players of the Super Eagles and Super Falcons before their matches on Saturday.

However the call from the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic failed to secure victory for the Super Falcons who were beaten 3-0 by Germany to crash out in the round of 16 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reports that Buhari spoke to both via video call through the President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick.

Pinnick told thenff.com that President Buhari charged the players of the Super Eagles to give their very best in their match against Burundi in their opening match of the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations. The Eagles won the encounter at the Alexandria Stadium by a lone goal scored by Odion Ighalo.

Buhari assured them that the government and people of Nigeria are behind them in their quest for honours and that football is a big factor unifying all the peoples of Nigeria across mental and physical boundaries.

Team captain Mikel John Obi assured President Buhari that the players have trained very hard and are presently in the right spirit to give their all to bring glory to Nigeria in Egypt. The Eagles won by a lone goal scored by Odion Ighalo.
