Burundi Striker Sent Home For breaking Camp Rules Ahead Eagles Clash

Burundi forward, Selemani Yamini Ndikumana has paid the price for indiscipline to bring an end to his Africa Cup of Nations campaign ahead of today’s opening group B encounter against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Consequently, the 32-year-old who plays for Saudi club Al Adalah was sent home on Thursday a day after the national team jetted into Egypt.

A statement on the Football Federation of Burundi Facebook page read as follows,

“The player ndikumana yamini is no longer part of the Burundi national team players who are going to take part in the CAN 2019 scheduled in Egypt from June 21 to July 19, 2019.

“The decision of the return of this player was taken today (Thursday, June 20, 2019) by the technical staff, after misbehavior shown by this player, thus violating the rules of conduct and solidarity that the players and staff have agreed to defend the national colors from This June 22, 2019.

“All the other 22 players are in shape with a good spirit to challenge Nigeria from the first entry to the AFCON contestation on Saturday in Alexandria.”

No other player has been announced to replace him.

Burundi finally qualified for  Egypt 2019 having finished second in Group C behind Mali and ahead of Gabon who came third with eight points, two behind the Swallows.

The team will be counting on the experience of Sadio Berahino and Fiston Abdoul-Razak who was the second highest goal scorer behind Odion Ighalo during the qualifiers.
