CAF Award: George Weah, Infantino to grace occasion

Barely 24 hours to the D-Day,  the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Liberia President and three time African footballer of the year George Weah and FIFA President Gianni Infantino will grace Tuesday’s award billed for Abdou Diouf International Conference Center in Senegal.

A statement issued by CAF revealed that all is now set for the event expected to attract creme dela creme in the sporting industry in the continent and beyond.

“The president of the Confederation Africaine de Football is in the Senegalese capital to participate in CAF Awards 2018.

Many guests are scheduled to attend the ceremony including the president of Senegal, Macky Sall, the president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, former soccer player and now head of Liberia, George Weah, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and FIFA General Secretary Fatma Samoura, .”

“Once again Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will compete to be named Best African Player of the Year.

In the ladies category Nigeria’s Assisat Oshoala who is hunting for her fourth title after claiming it in 2014.2016 and 2017 will be slug it out with compatriot and teammate Francisca Ordega and South Africa’s Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana.

The statement further revealed that after the ceremony on Tuesday January 8 CAF Executive Committee will hold a crucial meeting to decide the fate of the hosting country for the AFCON 2019,” CAF had after inspections resolved that Cameroon could not host the event and subsequently striped the country of right to host and called for fresh bids.  The Executive body is expected to decide between South Africa who last hosted the event in 2013 and Egypt who last hosted in 2006.
