CAF Champions League: Plateau United considering Agege Stadium, two others

Plateau United head coach, Abdu Maikaba has confirmed that the Peace Boys could play their CAF Champions League matches at the Agege Stadium, Lagos, or the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi or Pantami Stadium, Gombe.

The yellow and green side were first on the league table at the end of the season after the season was interrupted after 25 games as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic and the Point Per Game system applied.

The Plateau State government is yet to finish work on the New Jos Stadium, Zaria Road while the Rwang Pam Stadium is said to gulp over two billion naira to meet the standard required by the Confederation of African Football.

Maikaba informed that he would have a meeting with the Plateau United management and top of the agenda will be to look for alternative grounds in the event the government is unable to complete the Rwang Pam Stadium for it to be ready for use by the club and that stadiums in Lagos, Bauchi and Gombe are among those he would propose as alternatives.

“I am glad that football has returned and we are going to make good use of this window to ensure that our players are ready for the continent,” Maikaba told SportingLife.

“We are also looking at getting alternative a ground to play our home matches on the continent with the two stadiums in Jos almost not ready to host us on the continent for now. We know they are working hard to ensure it is ready but we must have alternatives that we are going to present to CAF for inspection.

“I hope to discuss with the team management and we are looking at the choice of the stadiums in Bauchi, Gombe, and even Lagos. Our priority will be to get a good pitch to play,” he concluded.
