CAF Champions League qualification: MLS star splashes N2m on Lobi Stars

Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Champions League, Lobi Stars of Makurdi were on Saturday rewarded with N2m for advancing into the group stage of the money spinning event after defeating Gor Mahia of Kenya at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. They progressed on the away goal rule after aggregate scores stood at 3-3.

 

Making the donation to the team was Major League Soccer (MLS) star Fanendo Ali who was at the Stadium to support the Makurdi based side to victory.

 

“Since I am home as @MLS is on break, I came to support my State team, #WeAreLobi. I am happy #Lobi won,” said the player.

Ali was particularly impressed with the side’s second half outing which saw them earn the vital win.

“I promised them N500,000 for each goal and N1m for a win and so they got N2m from me. I may have become N2m poorer, but l was excited to pay out this money,” added the player.

Sikiru Alimi scored the goals that qualified Lobi to the next round.
