CAF, Chelsea send greetings as former Eagles Captain clocks 33

 

Former Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel clocked 33 Wednesday, confederation of African Football (CAF) and former club Chelsea did not allow the suffocating worry of covid-19 allow them forget to congratulate the former Trabzonspor midfielder.

As it is customary for the Continental body to regularly remember football greats in the continent, CAF did not only say “Happy birthday to Nigeria’s retired midfielder john Obi Mikel” on its twitter handle, but also backed the post with a short catalogue of his achievements”

The former Tiajin Teda of china midfielder spent most of his playing career at Chelsea where he did not only impress for over a decade at the Stamford Bridge but also won several laurels for his effort including the prestigious Europa and Champions league playing alongside some of the best players in the world in the process.

The Blues though currently observing a lockdown forced on the globe by the Covid-19 pandemic nonetheless took to their Instagram to send 33 hearty cheers to their worthy ambassador who gave his all while at the Bridge.”33 today! 🥳 Have a great birthday, @Mikel_John_Obi! 🏆💙” said the Frank Lampard tutored side.

Mikel  did not only make an impressive run of his premier league career but also left his foot on the sand of history at the national level where he became the most capped Nigerian midfielder in history earning 90 caps, making two world cup  and five Nations cup appearances.

Mikel parted ways with Trabzonspor of covid-19 call

Mikel who last played for Turkish side Trabzonspor, recently parted ways with the club after his call for the Turkish league to be suspended following the rampaging effect of coronavirus was taking in bad light by club management.

The said league and in fact all leagues and sports activities has since been put in the cooler as covid-19 continues to dictate what should and should not be.  May and June have tentatively been penciled down for possible return of sports activities but no one can say for sure that the dates are realizable as the world continues to chase for the cure.
