Can Olympic Eagles build on Zambia/South Africa lifeline draw?

Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles who began their campaign at the ongoing U-23 Nations cup in Egypt  on a losing note were handed what looked like a life line after Zambia and South Africa played out a 1-1 draw.

The result saw both teams earning a point each with Nigeria occupying the last place on the group ladder with no points.

But a resounding victory against Zambia on Tuesday could see the Eagles return to contention for Olympic ticket on one hand and a place in the last four on the other, especially if South Africa fail to fly past group leaders Ivory coast who are likely to seek consolidation after picking the three points at state against Nigeria.

Some soccer fans who bared their minds in a chat with Sportinglife.ng ahead of the Olympic Eagles second match expressed mixed feelings over possible outcome.

Nigeria according to them has not be at her best this year citing flying Eagles poor run at the World cup in Poland, sacking of highly rated Eaglets and 5-time champions from the ongoing U-17 world cup in Brazil and Falcons failure to pick an Olympic ticket as some of the low points that may continue unless the Olympic Eagles decide to rise above failure.

While Coach Imama Amapakabo remains optimistic that all is not yet lost, Olympic Eagles striker Ibrahim Sanusi said the team will put in everything and leave the rest to God

“All teams are equal in this tournament. We know what we have to do after losing the first match. Two games remain to be won to keep in the competition. We lost nothing yet” said Imama

Only Eight countries are participating in the showdown in Egypt divided in two groups of four. While hosts Egypt are leading Group A after starting with a lone goal defeat of Mali, Cote d’Ivoire lead group B after their lone goal victory over Nigeria.
