Celtic ace Dickson, 19 arrested over hit and run tragedy

A footballer Ciaran Dickson has been arrested after a teenager was killed in an alleged hit-and-run on Saturday morning.

Dickson, 19, was taken into custody after 18-year-old Aidan Pilkington was mowed down on Crow Road, Glasgow, in the early hours of the morning.

Aidan was found seriously injured on the side of the road and rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at 12.20am but could not be saved.

Dickson, who plays for the Celtic B team, was arrested on Sunday before being released pending an investigation and a car was traced yesterday following a police appeal.

The midfielder, from Erskine in Renfrewshire, who made his debut for Rangers last season, was awarded a three-year deal in January.

The Scotland Under-19 international then signed to Celtic earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Aidan’s devastated family paid tribute to the teenager – who was planning to move to Dundee for university next week.

They said: ‘Aidan was treasured by his family, and well loved and respected by his friends and community.’

In June the teenager finished Sixth Form at Hyndland Secondary School, with the headteacher Louise Edgerton describing him as a ‘kind’ and ‘loyal’ friend who would be missed.

She added: ‘Aidan was a very special young man in so many ways, thoughtful, ambitious, wanting to live a good and meaningful life.

‘His family was well known to us as he was the youngest of three, both brothers attended Hyndland before him.

‘Anyone who had the pleasure to teach Aidan also remember him fondly for his inquisitive mind and his sense of justice.’A GoFundMe page set up by Aidan’s colleagues at McDonald’s has raised £10,441.

A note on the page read: ‘After hearing of the tragic news that one of our valued team members and friend has sadly passed away following a tragic road incident, we wanted to do as much as we can to support his family and everyone who cared about him.
