It was on September 21, 2013 that a half-volley from Mikel found the back of the net, giving Chelsea a 2-0 lead against Fulham in the premier league to mark the midfielder’s first league goal ever for the Blues.
Mikel had been at the club seven years prior, but that league goal eluded the Nigerian until that memorable day.
The Nigerian fed off an assist by current Aston Villa assistant Coach, John Terry, from a Frank Lampard cross.
The ex-Super Eagles’ captain could not score any more premier league goal, but he managed six in total from 372 appearances.
The moment as captured on video was shared on Instagram and Twitter, but captioned thus in the latter: “Seven years of waiting, and then this! ?? On this day in 2013, @Mikel_John_Obi scored his first @PremierLeague goal!”
