Chelsea confident of signing £35m Sterling deal

Chelsea are said to be confident of securing a £35million deal for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling.

The 27-year-old England winger has been linked with a move away from the Etihad during the transfer window, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Arsenal all touted as potential destinations. But Chelsea have now emerged as serious contenders for Sterling’s signature, with transfer guru Gianluca di Marzio reporting that the west Londoners are confident of getting a deal done.

However, a move for Sterling could hinge on the futures of Romelu Lukaku and Ousmane Dembele. £100million man Lukaku has been linked with a return to Inter Milan, while Barcelona striker Dembele could be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

According to fellow transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is a “big fan” of Sterling, strengthening the chances of him making a dramatic switch to City’s Premier League rivals.

The 27-year-old star first suggested that he could leave the Etihad last October when he said he needed to be playing a “certain level of football.”

Sterling has found first-team opportunities more limited in recent times and only started 28 of City’s 50 fixtures in the Premier League and Champions League last season.

Pep Guardiola addressed questions about the player’s future last year and said he would not stand in Sterling’s way if they wanted to leave the club.
