Chelsea defender nets more goals than Ronaldo in UCL this term

Cristiano Ronaldo may be the all-time top scorer in the history of the Champions League but this season the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has less goals than Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

Azpilicueta was on target in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Lille at Stamford Bridge in the final group game last night – his first-half header doubling his tally in European competition this season.

And incredibly, ahead of Juventus’ game away at Bayer Leverkusen tonight, the Spanish defender is ahead of Ronaldo in the goalscoring charts despite playing at the back and having 22 less attempts.

Ronaldo has 127 goals in Europe’s premier competition overall but has only struck once in the Champions League this term – that goal coming against Leverkusen in October.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star holds so many records in the Champions League, to the point where Ronaldo himself said the Champions League “should change its name and call itself the CR7 Champions League”.

But he’s not really got going this season and reports have emerged stating that Ronaldo regrets making the £99 million switch to Juventus.

According to ABC, as per The Mirror, he’s told former teammates that he thinks he would have added to his five previous Ballon d’Or successes if he stayed in the Spanish capital – whilst voicing his disappointment at missing out on individual prizes since joining Juve.
