Chelsea handed major injury blow after Arsenal draw

Chelsea were handed a major injury concern as Tammy Abraham was helped off the pitch following Tuesday night’s clash with Arsenal.

The striker limped to the touchline and then down the tunnel with the assistance of medical staff after appearing to hurt his right ankle following a collision with the advertising hoarding during the latter stages of a dramatic 2-2 Premier League draw against 10 men at Stamford Bridge.

The scores were level at 1-1 when Abraham could not stop himself from running into the board after trying to keep the ball in play during a tussle with Gunners defender Rob Holding.

The England international stayed on the floor in some discomfort before gingerly getting back to his feet and was visibly struggling to run with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard having already used all three of his allotted substitutions.

Abraham limped to celebrate with his team-mates after Cesar Azpilicueta looked to have secured victory for the hosts after Gabriel Martinelli had cancelled out Jorginho’s first-half penalty.

He continued to struggle, but Chelsea did not kick the ball out during their next two spells of possession before Hector Bellerin secured a share of the spoils for Arsenal.

Lampard said he was not yet aware of the severity of Abraham’s injury when quizzed on the issue during his post-match press conference, only revealing that Abraham was icing his ankle in the changing room.

The player was later seen limping, but without a protective boot.
