Chelsea look ahead to January market

Despite the £250million spent on new additions this summer, Chelsea are exploring how they can improve their squad further.

Chief negotiator Marina Granovskaia is on the lookout for another centre-back, in the knowledge that Thiago Silva’s addition is a mere quick fix for the Blues’ defensive woes.

Football.London report Antonio Rüdiger’s future lies away from West London – therefore his place in Frank Lampard’s squad will need to be filled.

The club’s pursuit of Declan Rice may also continue, as Granovskaia is said to be targeting a defensive midfielder too. N’Golo Kanté has been an excellent servant to the club, but finds himself approaching his 30s and his influence on the side waning.

Chelsea may not have to look too far to find their replacement for either of these positions, depending on the development of Wales international Ethan Ampadu at Sheffield United this season. The versatile youngster can play both positions and will see plenty of minutes under Chris Wilder.
