Chelsea takeover: American billionaire prepares another improved bid

American financier Todd Boehly is reportedly preparing to make an improved offer to buy Chelsea after his first bid was rejected.

Boehly reportedly values the club at £3bn and has made Chelsea his number one target, according to the Telegraph .

Abramovich values the Blues at £3.74bn and insists they are not for sale, but this has not put the LA Dodgers part-owner off.

Boehly, who is valued at nearly £5bn, owns 20 percent of the Major League Baseball franchise and previously made a bid to buy Tottenham Hotspur in 2014.

The 46-year-old also part-owns Women’s National Basketball Association team Los Angeles Sparks and is reportedly willing to bide his time with a new approach to add to his portfolio.

A fresh bid would be the fifth bid recently tabled to buy Chelsea after Abramovich rejected four offers in the last 18 months.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 but runs the club from outside the country due to a decline in relations between Britain and Russia in 2018.

As such, the 53-year-old has put plans to build a new state-of-the-art stadium costing £500m-£1bn on hold.

It is thought this has encouraged interested parties to table their bids for the club and Boehly may choose to make his fresh approach in Spring next year, when planning permission for the stadium build expires.

The new stadium will greatly increase capacity from 41,613 to 60,000, the level of Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal , Spurs and West Ham .
