Chiellini: ‘Juve will end Atalanta fairy tale’

Giorgio Chiellini wants Juventus to stall the ‘Atalanta fairy tale’ by winning the Coppa Italia Final tomorrow. ‘We’re really eager to lift a trophy.’

“We are ready,” assured the defender in his press conference.

“This is a separate game to the rest of the season. We’re really eager to lift a trophy, but also know that nothing can ever be taken for granted.”

After beating Sassuolo and Inter, Juve put themselves in contention to secure a top-four finish in the final round.

“These last two wins in Serie A have given us a strong boost that makes us hope for the best in the Serie A finale, and Milan’s draw gave us hope, but we are fully focused on tomorrow’s game.

“Of course we are aware of the difficulties that facing Atalanta entail, but we are hungry and determined. Hopefully, this stadium can bring us as much luck as it did in the Supercup.”

This venue, usually Sassuolo’s home arena, was also used in January when Juventus beat Napoli 2-0 for the Supercoppa Italiana.

“I expect it will be similar to the match we played in Bergamo last month, very balanced, with details making the difference. We hadn’t run many risks in that game and Atalanta won thanks to a deflected shot. We hope tomorrow will be different.

“We have conceded more goals lately, but that’s just a sign of football changing, as there have been more goals scored in general this season.

“This is a Final, we earned our chance to go for the trophy by beating Inter in the semi-final. We are eager to win and to stop this Atalanta fairy tale that seemingly grows year after year.”

As it is a Final, there will be 4,300 people allowed into the stadium, with health checks at the gates.

Fans must have either a valid vaccination certificate or a negative swab within 48 hours of the game.

Chiellini was asked if this will be his last Final in the Juventus jersey.

“I am honest, I’m taking it one game at a time. We’ll evaluate everything at the end of the season, but I don’t want to take any focus away from this trophy.”
