Chipolopolo Job: Amuneke, others know fate next week

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is expected to submit a shortlist of only 10 coaches from the more than 60 that have applied to manage the Chipolopolo to the country’s Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development for approval next week.

The Zambian national team job has been vacant since March after the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) failed to renew the contract of Belgian coach Sven Vandenbroeck following Chipolopolo’s failure to qualify for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

“Between now and next week, we will make a shortlist of 10 names who have applied to coach the Zambia national team and then we will take the names to the Ministry of Sport,” an insider at Football House reportedly told Zambia Daily Mail. “They (ministry) have to look at the names, we want to move in the same direction.”

Zambia Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke is among a motley crowd of coaches that met Monday’s deadline for applicants willing to take over the vacant Chipolopolo’s managerial job.

The FAZ is reportedly offering N3.6million salary for the job on a renewable two-year contract and Amuneke is expected to battle for the plum job with a notable list of coaches including former Enyimba and Rangers coach Serbian Kostadin Papic who is currently attached with Sihlangu of Eswatini.
