Chisora could be next in line to fight Joshua if he beats Usyk

Derek Chisora should immediately become the WBO mandatory challenger to face Anthony Joshua if  he defeats Oleksandr Usky on Saturday, according to David Haye.

Haye is driving the cause for Chisora to go up against Joshua and be handed the opportunity to leapfrog Ukrainian powerhouse Usyk in doing so.

Usyk, 33, has been patiently waiting to face AJ as his mandatory challenger having unified the cruiserweight division before stepping up to heavyweight, but Haye feels Chisora will have earned the right given he is a huge underdog heading into Saturday’s Wembley showdown.

Speaking this week to iFL TV Haye, who now manages the 36-year-old Chisora, said: ‘I’ll find out this week. I’ve written a letter to Paco [Valcarcel], the president of the WBO, stating that Derek should be, by beating the
mandatory [Usyk], he should become mandatory himself.

‘There’s only so many times he can go to the well. If there’s ever a chance for him to get a world title shot, it’s off the back of this victory.

‘We believe common sense will prevail and that the WBO, a great organization that Derek has worked closely with for many years, this is his opportunity.

Chisora first had a world title shot in 2012 when he fell to a points defeat against Vitali Klitschko.

He has lost nine times in his career, including twice to Tyson Fury and once to his now manager Haye.

Meanwhile, Usyk is already looking past his fight with Chisora, envisioning a win that will set him up with bouts against both Joshua and Fury and perhaps catapult him towards a career in Hollywood.

Usyk plans to dominate the heavyweight division, before resuming a fledgling acting career and taking his place alongside the biggest names in film.

Usyk has made cameos in a few movies back in Ukraine and has even taken acting lessons.
