Following a spate of eye-catching performances with Villarreal in the Spanish La Liga, Super Eagles’ recently capped winger Samuel Chukwueze has been rewarded with a fresh four-year contract by Nike.
Though a detail of the contract is sketchy, Chukwueze said he was happy with the deal that would see him use the gears of the American multinational footwear manufacturing company.
“I have signed a new deal with Nike and it’s four years,” the 19-year-old told SportingLife. “I’m so happy to sign another deal with Nike and that means I need to keep working more deal.”
Chukwueze is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s best players in Europe in the on-going season with his rich vein of form with the Yellow Submarines.
Last September, he made his first-team debut after coming on as a substitute in a 2–2 home draw against Rangers in the on-going UEFA Europa League. He also made his La Liga debut in November in the 1–1 home draw against Levante. He has already scored four goals in 13 matches for Villarreal and nearly increased his tally last Thursday in the high profile La Liga match against European champions, Real Madrid.
“It was a great feeling being in the field (against Real Madrid) with some world-class players and performing greatly; I’m so happy,” he further told SportingLife.
Meanwhile, Spanish influential sport tabloid, Marca reports that Chukwueze’s stock has increased substantially amidst speculations from rival clubs in the La Liga as well as in England.
According to Marca, Chukwueze ‘is one of the players in Europe’s top five leagues who has progressed the most this season, at least according to his market value which was valued at around 2.5 million Euros at the start of the 2018/19 season but he’s now valued at close to seven million Euros.
Incidentally, Villarreal had tied the player down in the summer, placing release clause of 40 million Euros meaning he can only be prised away in a mouth-watering fee.
