Chukwueze, Ikwuowem make 80-man Golden Boy Award list

Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze is on the 80 -man list for the 2019 Golden boy Award due to his contributions for both the Super Eagles and Spanish club, Villarreal.

The 20-year-old whose style of play has been likened to an ex-Dutch player, Arjen Robben had a good campaign for Villarreal last season which earned him a call up to the national team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations going on in Egypt.

He has been one of the stand-out players for the senior team in Egypt especially against South Africa where he scored and won the Man of The Match Award in the quarter-final.

Chukwueze is joined on the list by Ikwuowem Utin who moved from Nigeria Premier League side, Enyimba to Isreali club, Maccabi Haifa after the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland last month. Another Nigerian on the list is  Bobby Adekanye who has signed for Seria A side, Lazio from Liverpool in the English Premier League.

Utin made the list as a result of his outing with the Flying Eagles of Nigeria who were eliminated in the Round of 16.

The list dominated by Europeans among them Matthijs DE LIGT, Gianluigi DONNARUMMA, Philip Walter FODEN, Mason Tony MOUNT, Edward Keddar NKETIAH is the brainchild of Italian sports daily Tuttosport and is given to players under 21 years that play in any of the top leagues in Europe.
