Clash of German shot-stoppers: Ter Stegen not world-class – Rummenigge

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has declared that Barcelona shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is not yet a world-class goalkeeper.

Bayern and Barca clash in Champions League quarter-final on Friday, in Portugal, but there has been some rather heated words exchanged in the build-up to the showdown.

This follows Lothar Matthaus assertion that the current Bayern Munich side must not make mistakes of failing to progress past Los Cules.

“Germany is fortunate to have this pair of goalkeepers, although Neuer is truly world-class and Ter Stegen is still on his way to that level,” Rummenigge noted.

Interestingly, Ter Stegen has been sensational for the Blaugrana in the last two seasons, but he finds it difficult to have his performances recognised in his home country because of the presence of Neuer.

Friday will see the pair go up against each other, and if the tie comes down to a penalty shootout, then it will be a direct competition between the two shot stoppers.
