Coronavirus: Man Utd forced to change hotel after Chinese club lodged there

Manchester United have been forced to change their Marbella hotel due to fears over contracting coronavirus.

And the decision was taken because the club got wind that Rafa Benitez and the Chinese team he manages, Dalian Yifang, stayed there previously.

According to MailOnline, United were due to reside at the Westin La Quinta Golf Resort and Spa in Benahavis, Spain.

But they then discovered that Benitez and his squad had pitched up there days earlier – and this put them off.

The Premier League outfit will now stay at the five-star beachfront Kempinski in nearby Estepona.

It is not the first time United have been hit by coronavirus fears.

The Mirror is reporting that new signing Odion Ighalo has been banned from the club’s Carrington training ground after arriving on a loan deal from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.

He has been working on a personal fitness programme at a separate location in Manchester.

SunSport previously reported that Ighalo was stopped from attending the club’s winter training camp in Spain over fears he will be barred from returning to the UK over the coronavirus threat.

The club were concerned UK immigration could tighten border restrictions after the World Health Organisation upgraded the disease to a global emergency.

Border control is monitoring all persons who have arrived from China in the last 14 days.

United said that “it is simply a precautionary measure as the situation continues to be monitored”.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the club website: “Odion will stay in Manchester, because he arrived from China in the last 14 days.

“Because of the situation in China, we’re not sure if he’d be allowed back into England if he leaves the country again.

“So he’s staying here working with a personal coach, individual programme and his family then can settle in England as well. That’s a plus.

“Of course he might have liked to have come with the players and got to know them, but the risk [of potential border restrictions tightening], we don’t want to take that.”
