Courtney Dike receives Falcons omission with mixed feelings

Super Falcons’ Courtney Dike has asserted that she will still be rooting for Nigeria’s women’s senior national team in France at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup even though she received the news of her omission from the team with mixed feelings.

Dike feels she deserved to have been included in the closed camping in Austria based on her performance for the Falcons in the solitary game she was used during the last friendlies where she struck thrice in a 6-1 win over an Iceland team.

She, however, noted that even though she doesn’t agree with the decision to drop her from the list of the 27 players invited for the closed camping she will respect it without prejudice.

“I’ve gotten a ridiculous amount of questions about my absence for the upcoming cup,” Dike stated.

“Although I scored a hat trick in the last camp I was unfortunately not selected. While I do not agree with this decision, I will respect it. Yes, I am actively working as an accountant and I’m usually busy but everyone was aware of that beforehand.”

The Falcons attacker went ahead to give detail description of what she has been doing to keep herself fit including engaging a personal trainer to ensure her work as an accountant won’t hinder her from the sport she loves with a passion.

“I always make time for things I love and I am passionate about and was prepared to do what was necessary to make it work.

“I continued to train as instructed and I continued to get questions asking what airport I will fly out of, to provide bio information, speak about the camp and tournament, etc.

“I’ve reported my physical activity within the last month as instructed as well. I was invited to camp with the assumed opportunity of performing well translating into more opportunity.

The former Falconets star believes that a decision had already been made to drop her from the team going to France even before her invitation for the friendly games played some months ago but stressed that she was

thrilled at the opportunity given her to represent her fatherland.

“Looking back, I prefer not having an invitation than a decision already being made about me before my arrival.

“That being said I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities I received in the past and my girls will always have a special place in my heart. I’ll be rooting for you all! Forever and always.”
