COVID-19: Bayern stars workout on cyber after agreeing pay cut (Video)
With the coronavirus pandemic causing havoc with everyone’s lives, Bayern Munich have come up with a unique way to keep tabs on their stars.
The Bundesliga season has been suspended until April 2 at the earliest – but not many are expecting to return so soon – so as a result stars in the German top flight are having to keep in tip-top shape from the comfort of their own homes.
And Bayern are making sure their players don’t let off by getting them all to take part in training sessions via video call.
Just like many of us are having to do with work, Bayern are doing exactly that but more – using Zoom, a video conferencing website, to participate in intense gym sessions.
Bayern’s head of fitness, Holger Broich, is tasked with keeping the players in the best shape possible ahead of their return and speaking about the innovative exercise routine, he revealed: ‘The players are equipped with adequate sports watches.
‘This means that we receive all their interesting data, such as heart rate, on our monitors.’
The video sessions last from between 75 and 90 minutes depending on the exact exercises they are told to perform.
‘We demand the same punctuality and the same discipline. And yesterday (Wednesday), after training, the video link lasted a long time, the players talked, exchanged.
‘This is why training in video conference is an important moment in collective life at this time.’
The coronavirus crisis has affected the world all over and while Bayern’s squad look to keep themselves occupied at home, they have now decided to help battle the pandemic.
According to BILD, Bayern’s players and the entire board of directors have agreed to take a 20 per cent wage cut in a sign of solidarity to ensure the club’s employees behind the scenes don’t become affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Bayern are desperate for their players to come back firing on all cylinders when the suspension of football across the world ends, as they look to wrap up the Bundesliga title.
The German giants currently sit four points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga table with nine matches remaining.
