Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates Guinness World Record in style

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t stay out of the news long. Before making his first appearance for Manchester United, he has made history with Portugal and is currently celebrating his Guinness World Record.

The 36-year-old took to social media to show off his new framed certificate, confirming his status as the top international goalscorer in men’s football history.

The former Real Madrid player reached the milestone of 111 goals in dramatic fashion, giving Portugal a late win over Ireland on September 1 in the Algarve.

Previously, the record had been shared with Iranian legend Ali Daei, who scored 109 goals for his country between 1993 and 2006. Now, Ronaldo is officially the standalone record holder.

Of course, it’s not the only goalscoring record that Ronaldo boasts, already having several to his name.

The Sporting CP academy graduate is the top Champions League scorer of all time (137), the top scorer in a single Champions League season (17), the top UEFA club competitions scorer of all time (137) and the player with the most goals in Champions League knockout games (67).

Over the course of this season, he will look to add to all of those totals as the living legend continues to write his own history.
