Cyprus Women’s Cup: Falcons get Austria, Belgium, Slovakia
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C along with Belgium, Austria and Slovakia of the 2019 Cyprus Cup billed for February 25 to March 7 in Lamaca, Cyprus.
The invitational tournament, the first for the Falcons, is to prepare the team for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. At the World Cup, Nigeria will face Korea Republic, France and Norwar in the group stage.
The 12-Nation tournament which is usually played every year also has 2018 Africa Women’s Championship runners-up, South Africa in Group A alongside Korea Republic, Finland and Czech Republic.
Hungary, Italy, Mexico, and Thailand complete the teams in Group B.
The Falcons are ranked 39 in the latest FIFA women’s ranking, while their group opponents, Belgium 25th, Austria, are ranked 23rd and Slovakia 45th.

The Cyprus Cup comes after the Four-Nation tournament in China from January 14 to 21, 2019 which the Falcons are also involved in along with Canada, Korea Republic and China.
