Dalung blames Eagles poor show on makeshift preparation

Super Eagles draw against Leone Stars

Former Minister of Youths and Sports Solomon Dalung has blamed Super Eagles disappointing outing on Friday on make shift preparation.

The beret wearing Minister who was at the helm from 2015 to 2019, noted that while the Leone Stars prepared like those seeking for victory, their hosts trained as though they were having an exhibition.

“Even though opinions differs as per the performance of the team, but no doubt we couldn’t have expected anything less than our bargains, our opponents trained technically for victory, while our training was political jamboree saturated with non-team members,” he dished out on social media in reaction to the Benin surprise tie.

Prior to the match legion of analysts and fans alike had made all manner of predictions with a greater percentage of the predictions giving victory to the Gernot Rohr tutored side with as high as 5-0 margin. 

However the Leone stars who had started off like real underdogs took the bull by the horns and turned the table with panache coming from 4-0 down to level up at 4-4.

The team is set for return leg on Tuesday in what some have described as damage control mission. The players have taken turns to offer apologies for the poor outing while promising to remedy the situation in Freetown.

A number of fans who spoke to on their expectations ahead of the return leg said it will not be a tea party for the Eagles, noting that the opportunity they had to make mincemeat of their opponents was wasted.
