‘Dazzling’ £60m starlet linked with Leicester, Man United, Man City

Portugal starlet Nuno Mendes is said to be among Leicester City’s potential summer transfer targets – but it looks like there could be stiff competition for the teenager’s services.

Mendes was first linked with Leicester back in November, when they were reported to have made an enquiry about the highly-rated left-back.

Liverpool and Arsenal were also credited with an interest at the time.

The 18-year-old’s name has now cropped up again, with Sky Sports reporting that the Foxes are keen on him as they look to further bolster their full-back department.

Ryan Bertrand is another player who has been mentioned as he is set to be available on a free transfer when his contract at Southampton expires.

Atalanta’s Robin Gosens has also been repeatedly linked with Leicester, who sold first-choice left-back Ben Chilwell to Chelsea last summer.

City did sign the naturally right-footed Timothy Castagne from Atalanta, while James Justin also filled in on the left of the defence this season, with Luke Thomas emerging as a promising prospect in that position as well.

Mendes comes into that category, too, after catching the eye with his performances for Sporting Lisbon in a wing-back role.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas said last year: “Nuno Mendes is dazzling. I have no doubt that he will be the future left-back of the (Portuguese) national team.”

Indeed, Mendes, who turns 19 next month, has been named in the Portugal squad for the upcoming European Championship finals.
