De Gea eyes PSG, rejects Man Utd new offer – reports

David de Gea has turned down an offer to extend his contract at Manchester United, according to reports in the UK.

United are reportedly not willing to meet the Spaniard’s salary demands of £350,000 a week, the figure that PSG are understood to have offered him.

The French club could be without a first-choice keeper for next season should Gianluigi Buffon announce his retirement. With the possibility of the 41-year-old hanging up his gloves, PSG plan to offer the Red Devils £60 million for De Gea, but could still opt to wait a year to secure him on a free when his contract ends next summer, according to The Sun.

PSG have offered Buffon a one-year extension, and as it stands, the club will likely await the Italian’s decision before deciding on a plan of action for De Gea.

De Gea is one of several high-profile players that have been tipped to leave Manchester United this summer, as coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to rebuild his squad amid the mooted exodus. Paul Pogba has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, while Juan Mata is reportedly of interest to Barcelona and Newcastle.

Ander Herrera, meanwhile, has already agreed terms with PSG and could soon be followed by Spain and Old Trafford team mate De Gea, if reports are anything to go by.

Who could replace De Gea at United

Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas has been touted as a possible successor to De Gea, after the Costa Rican was told by coach Zinedine Zidane that he was surplus to requirements at the Bernabéu next season.

Reports earlier this month claimed that Solskjaer would be offered the chance to sign Navas amid the uncertainty surrounding De Gea. With the Spanish keeper now looking likely to move on, the Red Devils may come knocking on Madrid’s door for their three-time Champions League-winning shot stopper.

However, The Daily Mail has claimed this Tuesday that United are planning to make De Gea’s current understudy, Sergio Romero, their number one between the posts rather than spending money on a new signing.

With just 44 appearances for United since his arrival in 2015, Romero was one of the surprise omissions of Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni for his 23-man Copa América squad announced on Monday, along with Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi. But a promotion at Old Trafford could prompt Romero’s inclusion in Scaloni’s future plans.
