Deontay Wilder finally thanks Fury as he breaks silence after KO loss

Deontay Wilder has finally congratulated Tyson Fury for getting the better of their heavyweight trilogy bout last weekend, insisting the “great historical memories” of their battles will “last forever”.

Fury knocked out Wilder in the 11th round of an all-time classic on Saturday night, pulling himself off the canvas twice to claim a second straight victory over his bitter rival.

Wilder was knocked out in the 11th round of an all-time classic on Saturday night

It proved an enthralling encounter from start to finish in Las Vegas, with Wilder first hitting the deck in the third round and then turning the tables in a dramatic fourth.

He was ultimately outclassed in the end, soaking up relentless punishment over the next seven rounds before the knockout blow came late on.

Though despite the conclusiveness of Fury’s victory and the epic war they shared, Wilder refused to embrace his arch-nemesis immediately after the fight and instead told him: “I don’t respect you.”

The Gypsy King was angered by the snub and branded him an “idiot” and a “coward” during his post-fight interview.

However, five days on from their heavyweight thriller Wilder has now changed his tune, taking to Instagram to congratulate Fury while branding himself a “true warrior”.

Along with a photo of his ring walk, he wrote: “Wow, what a hell of a night!

“I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed in the outcome but after reflecting on my journey, I now see that what God wanted me to experience is far greater than what I expected to happen.

“We didn’t get the win but a wise man once said the victories are within the lessons. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to lose to win.
