Determined Whitney Osuigwe good to go at the Aussie Open

When the Aussie Open serves off on February 8, one of the players that will be on parade in quest for honours is Florida born Whitney Osuigwe.

It wouldn’t be the first time for the hard working 18 year old but her fifth appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam.

She is yet to make it to the second round and is looking forward to hopefully do that in Melbourne.

Currently in quarantine alongside others in accordance with the rules going into the championship, Osuigwe like other players have been engaging in all kinds of activities to keep fit and keep boredom away and she revealed that TikTok is “taking up 85 per cent” of her time in quarantine, while Netflix, FaceTime and practising yoga are among her other pursuits

Whitney born in Florida to a Nigerian father tennis player Desmond is not only determined to make it in tennis but is also bent on doing whatever she can to ensure that disadvantaged children have opportunity to be themselves and have a better future.

“I grew up with a lot of opportunities and I still do have a lot of opportunities,” Osuigwe told itftennis.com. “But I also understand that a lot of kids don’t and didn’t have that.

“My dad was one of those and I grew up around a lot of kids who didn’t have opportunities. If somebody could have just given them opportunities then life would have turned out in a completely different way for them.

Osuigwe qualified for Melbourne  after defeating Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa, Olivia Gadecki of Australia and Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania in qualifying earlier this month.
