Diego Costa bids farewell to A/Mineiro amidst Gunners interest

 

Diego Costa has parted ways with Atletico Mineiro after the end of his contract with the Brazilian club.

Costa, 33, only joined Antonio Mohamed last summer after calling the time during his second stint at Atletico Madrid.

But just five months into his spell at the Estadio Mineirao, the Spanish striker has parted ways with Atletico and could now return to England, with Arsenal reportedly considering a transfer

“Today I am officially saying goodbye to Atletico,” Costa wrote on Instagram.

“I want to thank all Massa Atleticana for all the support and affection I have received from day one to the last. Thank you so much for being part of my childhood dream of playing in Brazilian football and winning titles.

“I would also like to express my thanks to the entire technical staff, the medical department, the employees and especially to my teammates who helped me on a daily basis and always did everything to put me at ease.

“The feeling that remains is gratitude to you Athleticans. Thank you and I wish you all the success in the world!!!’

Costa is said to have held informal talks with Arsenal, which are looking for a new striker in January.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to leave the Emirates after a spat with manager Mikel Arteta, meaning a replacement is needed this month.

And Costa, who has scored 59 goals in 120 appearances for their London rivals Chelsea, is seen as a possible short-term option.

Arsenal nevertheless face competition for his signature as Brazilian clubs Corinthians and Sao Paolo, along with Spanish team Cadiz, are also said to be interested.
